Sanibel fire approves millage, budget

By Staff | Sep 18, 2019

The Sanibel Fire & Rescue District has approved its budget for the new fiscal year that begin Oct. 1.

Commissioners Bruce Cochrane and Richard McCurry each supported the budget at the second and final of two public hearings held at Station 171 on Palm Ridge Road.

The millage rate remains the same as last year, 1.1089 mills, which exceeds the rolled-back rate of 1.0969 mills. The commission had voted to set the not-to-exceed rate at the current rate on July 10.

One mill is equal to $1 for every $1,000 of assessed taxable valuation. The rollback rate is the rate at which the same amount of revenue will be generated from properties within the taxing jurisdiction.

Scott said they went from a total revenue of $5,938,000 to $6,026,000, a slight increase in the budget. The total budget, which includes reserves, for FY2020 is $8,209.206.
