Lee County operations make adjustments for Labor Day

By Staff | Aug 29, 2019

The Labor Day holiday, scheduled for Sept. 2, will result in the following closures and schedule changes in Lee County’s operations:

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs and the town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning Sept. 2. This means that if the regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday; Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on through Sept. 7. Regular collection schedules resume on Sept. 9.

Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices are closed Sept. 2, in observance of the holiday. This includes the operation at the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, at 6441 Topaz Court, Fort Myers, and the Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road. The Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 7.

The Solid Waste Department urges all residents to recycle the paper, plastic, metal and glass from their holiday weekend activities.

Parks, pools and preserves remain open on Sept. 2, but offices and recreation centers are closed on Sept. 2 and will reopen Sept. 3.

All library locations will be closed on Sept. 2. Each branch will resume regular operating hours on Sept. 3.

Animal Services, at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be closed on Sept. 2, but will resume regular business hours on Sept. 3.

LeeTran will not run bus, trolley or paratransit service on Sept. 2. Service resumes on Sept. 3. Schedules and route information can be found at www.rideleetran.com.

The customer service center will be closed Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.
