SFWMD board chair goes python hunting

By Staff | Aug 23, 2019

The South Florida Water Management District reported on Aug. 13 that Governing Board Chairman Chauncey Goss had joined SFWMD python hunter Geoff Roepstorff on a recent weekend hunt.

Goss removed two python hatchlings during the python hunt, according to officials. The captures represented the 2,345th and 2,346th pythons removed by 26 SFWMD hunters in just over two years.

Goss’ first ever python hunt followed the recent announcement by Gov. Ron DeSantis, expanding Florida’s python eradication program into 130,000 acres of state parks. The governor also called on the SFWMD and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to bring greater resources and collaboration, enhancing the python removal efforts begun in 2017.
