On June 15, Mia Thompson, 14, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, paid a Make-a-Wish visit to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge with her family. Ranger Monica Scroggin swore her in as refuge manager for the day and accompanied the family on a tram tour provided by the Tarpon Bay Explorers. Scroggin reported, “When she got back, Mia decided – refuge managers make all the decisions – to take a hike on Indigo Trail. We saw a ton of birds and other wildlife, making it very difficult to leave. A big thank you to intern Kyle, Tarpon Bay Explorers, driver Donald, the DDWS (“Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge), and all the volunteers who made her day so special and memorable.”
