E-bikes would spoil original idea of SUP
To the editor:
I visited Sanibel in 1956 as a teen with my parents and later my husband and I purchased a house. My husband is an avid biker, having ridden across the United States, and we went every where on our bikes.
When the snowbirds arrived, we kept to the back roads for self preservation! Obviously some path riders had not been on a bike for some time, and many families didn’t keep an eye on their children who were a true danger. Hardly anyone warned you when they passed you.
Today riding on the path from December to May is not possible for us. I would like to see bike rental companies spending a little time with their renters. Someone should tell them “the rules of the road,” particularly they should be told the words “passing on your right (or left).” Giving them a piece of paper with riding suggestions is not the answer.
Electric bikes would ruin the original idea of the path. If you don’t like to walk, please drive. If you are medically unable to ride on the path and wish to do so, a doctor’s letter should do the job.
