Yacht Club pools to reopen Wednesday

By Staff | May 30, 2019

Starting next week, Cape Coral residents will once again be able to enjoy the city’s only community pool, which underwent just over three months of cosmetic work.

The Cape Coral Yacht Club Pool is set to reopen Wednesday, June 5, complete with brand new surfacing, hand rails, tile, deck and more.

“It was needed,” said Yacht Club supervisor Barbara Dickinson. “We’re looking forward to our members enjoying it.”

The $255,250 project cost was shared between the city and the Yacht Club. Dickinson said community pools usually are due for resurfacing every 10 years, and that 2004 was the last time a renovation had been made.

The main pool, as well as the kiddie pool, received all new surfacing, hand rails and tiling.

The Yacht Club also installed new decking around the pool, that was previously concrete, it is now a surface designed to keep things cooler and slip-resistant.

“It’s looking great. I think the public will be very pleased,” said Dickinson.

New diving boards are also expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

Along with pool maintenance, the Yacht Club also is undergoing bathroom renovations. Unfortunately, they will not be complete by the June 5 opening, but Dickinson said they will be operational in the near future.

“The bathrooms needed a face-lift as well. We’re disappointed they will not be done in time. But it was needed,” said Dickinson.

There will be portable bathrooms and hand washing stations for public use in the meantime.

She also noted there will be a fresh, new look to the landscaping out in front of the Yacht Club to freshen things up a bit.

Camps, swimming lessons and water aerobic classes will start up again on Monday, June 10.

The Yacht Club Pool is open seven days per week, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Swim lessons are offered for ages 6 months through 12 years old. The pool is now offering “Angel Fish” classes for youth ages 3-8 with special needs.

“The class is geared towards making the students as independent and successful in the water as possible,” reads the description of the class online.

Daily pool admission rates are $3.50 for adults (18 or older), $3 for youth (10-17) and $2 for children (9 and under).

Annual and semi-annual passes are also available.

The Yacht Club is at 5819 Driftwood Parkway.
