Cape Coral Police are continuing to investigate a crash that sent a 74-year-old Cape man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Wednesday, May 22, at around 6:39 a.m., Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a one-vehicle traffic crash at the 3300 block of S.W. 25th Court.

According to the CCPD, the accident occurred when the resident started to back the 2017 Lexus RX350 he was driving out of the garage when, for an unknown reason, he stopped halfway out and then pulled the vehicle back into the garage. Police report that the driver may have been attempting to exit the Lexus but had placed it in reverse instead of park. As he was exiting the vehicle and when he took his foot off the brake, the Lexus began rolling backwards out of the garage. The driver’s door swept the driver backwards, police said, and pinned him against the edge of the open garage door frame.

The driver was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital where, as of this morning, he was listed in critical condition, police said.

It is unknown if alcohol/drugs are involved in the crash.
