Nadereh Salim, chief executive officer of the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida, spoke to the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva on April 17.

A non-profit child welfare organization, it serves over 3,000 children in five counties with the goal of providing better access to local resources and a stable, loving and secure home environment.

Salim, who has devoted her professional life to advocating for children, displayed one metallic-blue fingertip. She passed around the nail polish and urged the club to join the MANicure Movement.

“This is the conversation starter to raise awareness about child abuse, and to remind us all that one person can make all the difference,” she said.

Salim reported that one in five children nationally will suffer abuse before the age of 18.

“Our greatest need is additional foster homes, especially those willing to take sibling groups and teens,” she said. “If you have a little space in your home and a big space in your heart for these children, please call us.”

The organization also seeks permanent homes for children with families who want to adopt.

Those interested in mentoring young parents or fostering or adopting children can visit the website at www.childnetswfl.org or call 855-933-KIDS (5437).
