The Sanibel Island Fishing Club will hold its final meeting of the season on May 14 at 7 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, with a half-hour social to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The featured speaker will be Rob Steffan, vice president of the Cape Coral Tarpon Hunters Club. He has served on the club’s board of directors, is a past president and was awarded the club’s Sportsman of the Year award in 2017. Steffan has released many tarpon, mentored several beginner tarpon hunters, and shared his extensive tarpon fishing experience with many other anglers.

He will speak about some of the basics of tarpon fishing in local waters and will discuss how average fishermen and fisherwomen can become engaged in tarpon fishing both inshore and near shore. Steffan will also address ethical fishing tactics and tarpon fishing gear that help ensure a safe catch and release of the area’s greatest sport fish. He will cover bait and tackle selection, and his presentation is designed specifically to help those new to tarpon fishing.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Pizza and refreshments will be available at a nominal charge.
