‘Father of Timeshare’ and more set for Sanibel library
The Sanibel Public Library recently announced its upcoming programs for adults and youth.
On April 15, the popular “Fill-A-Bag for A Dollar” book sale kicked off at the library. The sale will continue until the available inventory is depleted.
There will be a book talk on April 18 at 2 p.m. with the “Father of Timeshare,” Keith Trowbridge, who invented the concept of timesharing, starting with a single resort on Sanibel in 1973. Relive the adventures, by turns comic and tragic, of his hardscrabble childhood in Sarnia, Ontario. Learn how intelligence, promises to himself, and most of all perseverance brought him fortunes won and lost – and won again.
The library also hosts the following weekly programs for children:
– Family Storytime: Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. For young readers and their caregivers, the program helps develop pre-reading skills through songs and stories.
– After-School Clique: Wednesdays at 3 p.m. Geared for children in fourth through sixth grade, the group will craft, build, make and play, with books and a provided snack thrown in.
– After-School Crew: Thursdays at 3 p.m. Children in kindergarten through third grade will enjoy favorite books, never-knew-existed books, games and crafts, with a snack provided.
– Reading to Bessie: Rain-free Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Have fun reading to Bessie, a bearded collie and Reading Education Assistance Dog. Participants can sign up on the spot.
In addition, a Bedtime Storytime will take place on April 25 at 7 p.m. Designed for infants through elementary-age, youth can wear jammies, bring a teddy bear, and enjoy stories and a few cookies.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.
The Sanibel Public Library is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.
