Annual ‘Will to Live’ golf tourney raises over $8K
On March 27, almost 50 golfers participated in the 9th annual “Will to Live” golf tournament at The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club on Sanibel.
Three different flights were held, with additional winners in a number of skill challenges.
More than $8,000 was raised, which pushed the DMGA’s overall totals to almost $80,000 given over the last nine years.
The highlight of the day was the DMGA luncheon with a captivating message from John Trautwein, founder and head of the Will to Live Foundation. After the suicide death of their oldest child, 15-year-old high school freshman Will, Trautwein and his wife, Susie, started the foundation. Its motto is “For the kids, by the kids, through the kids.”
Since 2010, they have been spreading awareness of teen suicide, along with education of not only mental health issues to the young people of communities, but also teaching them to recognize the love they have in their lives today – through their friends – their “life teammates.”
