Junonia found on Sanibel
Siblings Anise Bates, 14, and Ian Bates, 12, of Minnesota, headed out from the Sanibel Cottages for some early morning shelling on April 1 with their cousin, Kelly Duncan. While walking along the shoreline, they noticed a shell churning in the water. After it slipped away from them a few times, the brother-sister duo finally got their hands on their prize their first-ever junonia. Duncan, who was raised on the islands and has been searching for her own shell for years, laughed and explained it was like a cosmic joke that her younger cousins found it rather than her. Their third visit to Sanibel, the siblings were vacationing on the islands for the week with family for spring break.
