Sanibel taking applications for structural safety inspectors

By Staff | Mar 20, 2019

The city is accepting applications for the position of structural safety inspectors – as needed – to serve on structural safety inspection teams for the city’s damage assessment process in the event of a disaster or hurricane incident.

Structural safety inspectors assess the overall property damage on the island, followed by a complete external damage report for each single or multi-family structure as to its condition for occupancy.

Knowledge of building construction is essential.

Applicants should be in excellent physical condition as actual work will require extensive walking under potentially arduous conditions in a hot and humid climate.

Selected personnel will be required to complete approximately six hours of field training to include first aid and CPR. A medical physical examination, drug test, and background check are also required and paid at the city’s expense.

Pay is $25 per hour for training. Upon activation in the event of a disaster, pay is $50 per hour.
