Shell Club announces monthly speaker

The Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club will meet on March 17 at 1:45 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. The guest speaker will be Dr. Greg Herbert, director of the University of South Florida’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Culture and the Environment and associate professor with the School of Geosciences. His presentation will be “A Decade of Research Expeditions to Study The Deep Water Mollusks of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.” Herbert has a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Loyola University in New Orleans and a master’s degree in geology from the University of California at Davis. As a professional malacologist, he and his graduate students study the conservation of Florida marine mollusks and the taxonomy and evolution of the family Muricidae. There will be a silent auction of shells. Refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded.
