The Sanibel Island Fishing Club will meet on March 12 at 7 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, with a half-hour social to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The featured speakers will be Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation Chief Executive Officer Ryan Orgera and Natural Resource Policy Director Rae Ann Wessel. They will discuss the current status of the progress being made toward the restoration of the Everglades and the long-term solutions to the water quality issues that have negatively impacted Southwest Florida for the past several years.

In addition, Wessel will discuss in detail her work on improving local water quality.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Pizza and refreshments will be available at a nominal charge.

The club meets monthly during season and sponsors several group outings, as well as lends support to fishing-related charities and organizations like Captains for Clean Water, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation and the Sanibel Sea School.
