Cape Coral Irish Festival steps off this weekend

By Staff | Feb 27, 2019

The 15th Annual Irish Festival will be held Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day in the Bavarian Gardens of German American Social Club.

Sunday will open with outdoor Mass.

The international family festival sponsored by the Cape Coral Irish American Club will be packed with Irish and Celtic sights and sounds.

This year’s entertainment includes great live Irish music. See the Screaming Orphans; Derek Warfield & the Young Wolfe Tones, Albannach, Rathkeltair, Jamison Celtic Rock, West of Galway, Brendan Nolan, the Lee County Pipers and of course Kellyn Celtic Arts Irish Dancers.

Also featured will be Lee County Pipes & Drums Band and lots of dancing with award-winning Irish step dancers and friends of the Festival, the returning Kellyn Celtic Arts Irish Dance Academy with their quick and precise steps, unique costumes and love for Irish dance.

If you’re curious about how to dance the Irish jig, plan to stop by the festival favorite – the Ceili Tent of folk dance – where dancers demonstrate and teach you traditional Irish dancing to the accompaniment of our very own Brian Bonner, ballad singer and accordionist with his roots in Donegal.

The family festival will also feature Leprechaun Lane, the Children’s Tent, for kids ages 3 to 12 where there’s action galore. Free face painting, supervised games, arts & crafts.

Festival food and drink will include corned beef & cabbage and other dishes as well as Guinness stout, Harp and Smithwicks beer, domestic and imported beer.

There also will be 50/50 raffles each day and the chance to find your “pot o’ gold” and win a Trip for Two to the Emerald Isle for just $5 a ticket. Prize includes Airfare from New York to Shannon or Dublin plus B&B and Rental Car for a week. Winner chooses when to go.

Admission Adults $10. Kids 12 & under Free.

The German American Social Club is at 2101 SW Pine Island Road. Parking is free; no pets and no coolers.
