After a two-year hiatus, the free deck talks are returning at Tarpon Bay Explorers, providing a no-cost fun option for visitors of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel.

“We had to pause our deck talk program as a result of construction that was happening in our parking lot,” Adam Sauerland, program and education manager, said. “The program was designed to help keep visitors entertained before afternoon eco-trips, but some people would come just to learn about wildlife they may be interested in. But, it was very difficult to give a proper presentation with an orchestra of power tools in the background.”

Deck talks consist of a 20-30-minute in-depth presentation on a variety of wildlife species. Topics include: dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, alligators and the Calusa Indians. They are held daily on Monday through Friday at 12:45 p.m. next to the dock between SCCF’s Marine Lab and the TBE gift shop.

No reservations required to take part.

Tarpon Bay Explorers is the concession to the refuge, providing recreational and education opportunities. For more information, call 239-472-8900 or visit www.tarponbayexplorers.com.
