Scotch bonnets found on Sanibel
Adam and Aaron Sandel found four Scotch bonnets on Dec. 21-22 near the Sundial Beach Resort and Spa on Sanibel – two with the aid of a full moon and high-powered flashlights, and two at dawn. They explained that a storm had rolled through on Dec. 20 and after coming to Sanibel for 25 years, they had learned that big storms bring great shells. Aaron Sandel called it two of the best shelling days they have had on Sanibel, especially factoring in the foot-long lightening whelks and horse conches found. Adam Sandel added that the finds are right up there with the junonias of years past. They encouraged children to start shelling at a young age as it is a great way to discover nature and bond with family.
