Island beach listed on ‘The World’s Best Beaches for 2018’
Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel recently ranked in the top 50 on two lists of the best beaches.
Flight Network, a Canadian-owned online travel agency in Canada, compiled “The World’s Best Beaches for 2018,” which highlights the best beaches on almost all of the continents. According to the website, it conferred with over 1,200 journalists, editors, bloggers and agencies to create the lists.
Among the categories are the World’s Top 50 Beaches, Top 50 Untouched Beaches and Top 50 City Beaches, along with the Top 50 Beaches for Africa, Asia, Oceania, Central America and the Caribbean, Europe, North America, and South America.
On the World’s Top 50 Beaches list, Bowman’s Beach comes in at No. 39. It is the only Florida beach ranked and joins just a couple of other American beaches on Hawaii and in California and Oregon.
“Located on picturesque Sanibel Island, Bowman’s Beach is a shell-seeker’s paradise and has even won awards for being one of the best ‘shelling beaches’ in the world,” the description reads.
“Fishing, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming are other popular pastimes on this pristine beach, which is one of the only stretches of sand on the island that has barbeque grills,” it continues. “Those who enjoy nature unfettered by buildings will be right at home on this charming shore.”
On the North America’s Top 50 Beaches list, Bowman’s Beach ranks No. 9. It is the only beach in Florida to break the top 10, joining other U.S. spots like Honokalani Beach on Maui, Lanikai Beach on Oahu and Honopu Beach on Kauai. The other top placers listed are located in Mexico and Canada.
Lower on the North America list, Bowman’s Beach is joined by only three other stretches of Florida sand – Calusa Beach at No. 24, Fort Lauderdale Beach at No. 28 and Grayton Beach at No. 50.
