South Seas to kick off 6th Annual Holiday Stroll
South Seas Island Resort will turn into a holiday wonderland in a few days, featuring lights, activities and festivities that are all open to the public for a small fee, which will benefit an island non-profit.
Taking place at the Yacht Harbour and Marina located at the north end of the resort, the 6th Annual Holiday Stroll will open on Dec. 7-8 from 6 to 9 p.m. and will run every Friday and Saturday thereafter leading up to Christmas. There will be treats, “ice” skating, entertainment, arts and crafts, and more.
Rhonda Decherd, director of catering, explained that the resort is typically only open to guests.
“This is a fabulous time to come out and look at the holiday decorations,” she said, noting that visitors can tour the property. “As a community, we want everyone to come in and enjoy our holiday spirit.”
For a donation of $10 – children 12 and under are free – attendees can enjoy anything from face painters, stilt walkers, jugglers and balloon artists, to photos with Santa, watching seasonal movies on a jumbo screen, make-and-take crafts and complimentary sweets, even falling “snow” and “skating.”
“We donate any proceeds that we receive to a local charity,” Decherd said.
This year, the recipient will be Captains for Clean Water.
The local water quality issues experienced over the summer weighed in on the selection.
“We want to make sure that we’re contributing to the overall community,” she said.
Back for a second year, the event will feature an outdoor ring, which is actually made of metal.
“But it looks like ice. We give you socks that you can wear and you can slide around on it,” Decherd said. “The skating ring was very popular last year, so we brought it back.”
Santa will be on site every day, with a chance for children to write their letters to him.
“He will be doing photos and giving his holiday spirit to all the guests,” she said.
A troupe of elves will assist visitors with crafting mementos.
“Our own elves here will be helping children decorate keepsake ornaments, picture frames,” Decherd said. “Also, we do give you a keepsake elf hat.”
South Seas has a 22-foot Christmas tree, which was recently lit at the annual tree lighting.
“We have a snowman that pumps out fake snow,” she said.
Classic holiday movies will play continuously outside, with comfy pillows provided for seating.
“There’s a big blow-up screen,” Decherd said.
Attendees can partake in seasonal treats like eggnog, hot chocolate, snow cones and more.
“We do complimentary s’mores, popcorn and cotton candy,” Decherd said.
Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase. In addition, the Harbourside Bar & Grill – typically only open to resort guests – will be seating and serving diners looking for a bite to eat.
Complimentary parking for the event will be located at the north end of South Seas.
“We’ll have elves directing you to our festive Holiday Stroll,” she said.
Event tickets can be purchased day of outside of the Harbourside Bar & Grill.
The public is invited to come out and get in the holiday spirit.
“It’s leading up to your Christmas and New Year’s,” Decherd said.
