U.S. veterans will be honored and featured at a Community Social set for today, Nov. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel, organized by the Sanibel Community Association.
In recognition of Veterans Day, the themed menu will be “all-American.”
Resident Chef Jarred Harris will prepare all of the food, which will feature: iceberg wedges with tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles and chopped bacon; chicken and dumplings; old-fashioned meatloaf; mashed potatoes and gravy; macaroni and cheese; and mixed vegetables.
Adults are $15 per person, and children ages 10 and under are $10 each; tickets will be $18 at the door. For an additional $5, attendees can partake in the ice cream sundae bar and dessert topping sauces.
Veterans eat for free, but advance notice is recommended by calling 239-472-2155.
Billy’s Rentals, Jason Maughan Law Group and Bailey’s General Store are the meal sponsors.
During the event, there will be veteran speakers talking about their service.
In addition, The Community House and King Arthur Flour are holding a pie baking contest. Open to home cooks of any age – no professional chefs – the pies will be judged on best tasting, appearance, creativity and texture. King Arthur cookbooks and gift certificates will be awarded to the top placers.
The judging will take place from 5 to 6 p.m., prior to the start of the Community Social. Those interested in entering the contest need to drop off their pie and recipe at the venue by 5 p.m.
Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
