Former WAVE to speak at Lee Coast MOAA meeting

The Lee Coast Chapter of MOAA – Military Officers Association or America – will meet on Nov. 12 at 5:45 p.m. at the Crown Colony Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers.

The guest speaker will be Ettie Walsh, a 96-year-old former WAVE. The United States Naval Reserve (Women’s Reserve), better known as the WAVES for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, was the World War II women’s branch of the United States Naval Reserve.

During WWII, Walsh worked in Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C. Later, she farmed and taught elementary school in Mississippi, then moved to Lee County where she was a substitute teacher.
