Woman charged with attempted second degree murder
A Cape Coral woman was charged with attempted second degree murder Monday after police say she chased her husband from her home with a handgun and fired at him multiple times.
Cape Coral Police were called to 2933 Santa Barbara Blvd., S., after witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots.
Once Cape Coral Police patrol officers arrived, they saw one person in the unit but they would not initially come out to speak with officers, a release from the CCPD states.
A BearCat armored vehicle, and Cape Coral Police Department Major Crimes Unit and Forensics were called to assist.
“Commands were given from the BearCat to the occupants within the unit over the Public Address loud speaker,” the release states. “Two females and a male came out of the unit and were detained. Another male returned to the scene and all four were interviewed by detectives.”
One of the women, Chrishara Monique Dawson, 23, was determined to be the suspect in this incident, officials said.
“Chrishara and her husband got into a verbal argument within the unit at 2933 Santa Barbara Blvd., S. Chrishara grabbed a handgun while her husband began to flee,” the release states. “Chrishara chased her husband outside as he was attempting to get to their vehicle to leave. She fired multiple rounds from the handgun at her husband and the vehicle tires. The husband then fled the area in the vehicle but returned after the incident had been deemed safe.”
No schools were on lockdown and there were no injuries related to this incident, police reported.
Santa Barbara Boulevard, S., was shut down during the incident and a Ping4Alerts! was sent out advising everyone to avoid the area.
Chrishara Dawson was charged with attempted second degree murder and later transferred to the Lee County Jail.
