In its fifth season, the Gulfshore Opera will employ an assortment of rising stars and veteran professional opera singers to perform throughout high season.

“GO Cabaret” will take place on Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. An informal evening of popular songs with jazz piano trio accompaniment, enjoy nostalgic hits from the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s with the Professional Artist in Residence and jazz trio accompaniment.

The concert was conceived as a casual social mixer in the true cabaret style, with long enough breaks in between sets for the audience to enjoy the wine and cheese spread available at each of the locations.

On Feb. 10, a touring production of “Don Pasquale” will take place at 7 p.m. at the Sanibel United Church of Christ, at 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. A rambunctious romp with a charming musical score, it is an opera buffo – comic opera – about an old curmudgeon who prefers to disinherit his nephew rather than to see him marry a woman he finds “unsuitable.”

Conductor Gregory Ritchey, who previously led the GO Orchestra in “Madama Butterfly” and “Rigoletto,” has stepped up to music director and will conduct “Don Pasquale.”
