Owner of The Jac donates old Jacaranda sign to Kiwanis
Eve Alves, owner of The Jac Island Grille & Rum Bar, has already shown her true island colors by donating the Jacaranda Restaurant’s iconic sign to the Kiwanis Club of Sanibel-Captiva.
The emblem will be offered up at auction during the club’s annual Spaghetti Dinner in February.
Alves expressed excitement at becoming an active member of the Sanibel community.
“Donating the Jacaranda sign to help the Kiwanis Club’s charitable efforts launches my commitment to the island that has so warmly welcomed me and my staff,” she said.
Kiwanis President Jason Smith and Eric Pfeifer, Kiwanis board member and past president, gratefully accepted the sign from Alves. Pfeifer called the gift “a link between Sanibel’s history and Kiwanis’s charitable endeavors.”
“Revenues from the Spaghetti Supper and its silent and live auctions provide essential support to dozens of island causes,” he said. “We hope that other businesses will join with Eve and Kiwanis in finding creative means to support island non-profits.”
The Kiwanis Spaghetti Dinner is held annually at The Community House on Sanibel. The event features an all-you-can-eat Italian pasta dinner, with spaghetti, meatballs and sauce, salad, garlic bread, wine or soda. It concludes with dessert and coffee, music and dancing, a raffle and two auctions.
Revenues from the dinner – a Sanibel tradition since the 1980s – help to fund island youth recreational and educational activities, as well as the club’s comprehensive Scholarship Program.
At 1223 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, The Jac Island Grille & Rum Bar is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with the bar open until 2 a.m. Happy hour is noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday Brunch is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
