All public schools to serve free breakfast, lunch

Breakfast and lunch will be free at all 79 traditional Lee County public schools for the 2018-2019 school year, including at The Sanibel School.

This is the first school year that both meals will be provided to all students through the Food and Nutrition Services Department’s Community Eligibility Program.

Four of the special centers – Buckingham Exceptional Center, L.A.M.P., Royal Palm Exceptional School and Success Academy – are also included in the CEP breakfast and lunch program.

Parents will not need to apply and “Free and Reduced” meal applications will not need to be completed or processed for the benefit. The meals will simply be available to students in their school cafeteria.

The Community Eligibility Provision is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas. CEP allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications.
