CCPD: Truck driver may have suffered ‘medical episode’ before crash
A truck driver was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning due to a medical condition that may have led to a single-vehicle crash on Cape Coral Parkway Tuesday night.
The unidentified driver of the tractor-trailer with an attached car hauler was traveling eastbound in the outside travel lane just east of the intersection at Leonard Street at 10 p.m. when the semi drifted right, police said. The semi mounted the raised curb , struck a tree planted on the sidewalk and continued on to strike a traffic sign and a light pole. Then truck then plowed through a line of hedges along the sidewalk edge and struck a palm tree before coming to rest approximately 128 feet from the area of initial impact, according to a Cape Coral Police Department release.
The driver was transported to a local hospital, officials said. Hospital staff advised that “the driver suffered a medical episode in addition to non-life-threatening injuries suffered in the crash.”
