Sanibel Christian Preschool announced that Nancy Black will teach the class for 2-year-olds.

On Aug. 10, she will join the preschool’s team of director Ana Abella and teacher Lora Lea Plummer, who oversees the 3-year-olds.

Black is a lifelong educator with more than 20 years of experience teaching ages from preschool to second grade. She holds a Master of Arts in English education with a concentration in family literacy, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in elementary-secondary education.

Black believes that children are unique and should be celebrated for their individual talents and gifts.

“My educational philosophy can be summed up with a quote from Plato,” she said. “Do not train youth to learn by harshness, but lead them to it by what amuses their minds. Then you may discover the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”

The preschool has openings for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds, with classes from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.; aftercare is also available. VPK classes run five mornings a week for eligible students.

Scholarships for financial aid based on economic needs are available.

The preschool is at Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, at 2050 Periwinkle Way.
