Coast Guard assists four adults, two children from stranded boat
The U.S. Coast Guard assisted a Cape Coral family of six, including two children, after its boat ran aground four miles southwest of Sanibel Island on June 15.
At 7:36 p.m., watchstanders received a call from the family stating they were stranded on a sand bar after their boat ran aground. Among the family were two children, ages 2 and 4, officials reported.
A Marine Assistance Request Broadcast was issued, which asks for assistance from boaters in the area. After receiving no reply to the broadcast, a Station Fort Myers Beach boatcrew was launched.
The boatcrew transported the family to the station with no reported injuries. The family stated they would arrange for salvage of the boat on June 16. The boat did not pose a hazard to navigation.
