Preparing for storm season
The Captiva Island Fire Control District held its annual Captiva Hurricane Seminar on June 13 at the Captiva Fire Station. There were presentations by Lee County Emergency Management and NBC meteorologist Jason Dunning, plus an opportunity to ask questions of the fire district and Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The guest speakers included Sandra Tapfumaneyi, operations chief for Lee County Emergency Management. She discussed the lessons learned from Hurricane Irma and how to prepare. Dunning, with NBC’s weather team, covered the 2018 hurricane season predictions. Following the presentations, Fire Chief Jeff Pawul and LCSO Lt. Mike Sawicki were available to answer questions about storm preparations, returning after an evacuation, hurricane re-entry passes and such. Literature was also available for attendees to take home. Those unable to attend can visit www.leeeoc.com for more information. The fire station also carries copies of Lee County’s All Hazards Guide for the public.
