Joey’s Custard adds dessert waffles to menu on suggestion

Joey’s Custard on Sanibel is now serving up dessert waffles in eight different choices.
Each one is built on top of a Bavarian waffle with up to four toppings.
“The combination of warm waffle, cold ice cream and rich topping in every spoonful is pure extravagance,” Debi Almeida, who co-owns the shop with her son, Joey, said. “We are excited to introduce these delectable treats.”
Joey Almeida created the dessert on the advice of a local restaurateur, who often patrons the shop and has known the 25-year-old islander since his childhood.
“We have the most unique menu of sweets, but our dessert waffles are truly a decadent experience,” he said. “We are not your traditional ice cream shop.”
Located at 2467 Periwinkle Way, Joey’s Custard is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
