UPDATE: Lap pool reopens at Sanibel Recreation Center

UPDATE:

The Sanibel Recreation Center lap pool leak has been repaired.

The pool reopened today at 6:30 a.m., according to the city of Sanibel.

It has resumed its normal operating hours, which are as follows:

– Monday to Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

– Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

– Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

– Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The youth swim program, or SWAT, and water fitness classes have also resumed.

ORIGINAL (MAY 14, 2018):

The Sanibel Recreation Center lap pool is closed until further notice, according to officials.

On May 12, the city of Sanibel reported that the pool has a significant underground water leak. Staff is working with contractors to repair the facility and return to full operations as quickly as feasible.

In the interim, officials apologize for any inconvenience.

The leisure pool and splash pad are open:

– Monday to Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

– Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

– Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

– Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Water fitness classes will be conducted as shallow water classes and held in the leisure pool.

The youth swim program, or SWAT, will have optional practices at the pool at Cypress Lake High School, at 6750 Panther Lane, Fort Myers, from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Daily, weekly and annual center memberships are available.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is at 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road.
