Gator Bites takes home championship title for spring softball league

Team Gator Bites Tail and Ale won the 2018 spring Co-Ed Softball League championship.

On April 25, the season-ending tournament was played at the Sanibel Ball Fields.

For the playoff games, the first one pitted Gator Bites Tail and Ale against team Island Inn.

“Game one between Island Inn and Gator Bites Tail and Ale came down to the last inning, with Gator Bites getting the win 22-17,” Char Durand, program coordinator at the Sanibel Recreation Center, said.

For the second playoff game, team Bubble Room faced off against team Bailey’s.

“Game two between the Bubble Room and Bailey’s was fun and competitive until the fifth inning, when the Bubble Room pulled away (18-8),” she said.

Afterward, Gator Bites Tail and Ale and Bubble Room battled it out for the championship.

“The championship game was action packed – lots of runs, diving defensive stops, home runs and close calls,” Durand said. “A big 15-run first inning by Gator Bites Tale and Ale proved to be too much for the Bubble Room to overcome.”

Gator Bites won the title over the Bubble Room, 31-24.

“Thanks to all the teams for coming out and making an already beautiful evening on Sanibel Island so exciting,” she said, also expressing thanks to umpire Tony Schall. “What a wonderful night for championship co-ed softball.”

The tournament results are as follows:

– Game 1: Gator Bites Tail and Ale vs. Island Inn (22-17)

– Game 2: Bubble Room vs. Bailey’s (18-8)

– Championship game: Gator Bites Tail and Ale vs. Bubble Room (31-24)

The final standings for the season are:

– Bubble Room: 10-1-1

– Gator Bites: 8-3-1

– Island Inn: 7-5

– Bailey’s: 4-8

– Young Professionals: 0-12

The league will resume in October for the fall season.
