Hurricane Irma Shared Use Path repair project begins

By Staff | Apr 20, 2018

Sanibel began repairing hurricane related damage to the city’s Shared Use Path system on April 20.

Because of the nature of the damage, the project will receive FEMA funding assistance.

The city anticipates that the repair work will be complete by May 4.

For safety, the areas under repair may be barricaded off from users. All path users are reminded to use caution while around and passing through construction zones.

Each year, the city inspects all 26 miles of the Shared Use Paths and prioritizes the needs for repairs. Last year’s repair project was completed; however, Hurricane Irma caused additional damage to the system, resulting in the need for this project.
