‘Boys and Their Toys’
The inaugural “Boys and Their Toys” fund raiser filled the parking lot at the Olde Florida Outpost in St. James City with classic and vintage cars, boats, RVs, and bicycles.
“This is a fundraiser for our local organization F.I.S.H. (Fellow Islanders Sending Help),” Olde Florida Outpost owner Heather Swartz said. “This is a special event for us because we chose F.I.S.H. as our fundraiser because Julie, who’s my store manager, lost her mother a little over a year ago and F.I.S.H. was there for her and we knew they were a good cause that needed some money.”
Fellow Islanders Sending Help (F.I.S.H.) is a nonprofit association of volunteers organized to make available the fullest possible range of neighborly, caring, unpaid and nonprofessional assistance to those who request help. The area of operation is limited to Greater Pine Island, Matlacha and Matlacha Isles.
The Boys and their Toys idea originated when the Swartz’s (Dean and Heather) lived in Fort Lauderdale.
“A friend of ours named John Baker opened a restaurant and had a huge parking lot,” Heather Swartz said. “Dean and I organized a ‘Boys and their Toys’ event which turned out to be a great success. For us this is special because our friend John passed away a few weeks ago.”
During the day there were 50/50 raffles, a Chinese auction and bake sale, along with hot dogs, chips, soda and water. Pine Island favorite Bobby D. Mann was on hand to provide his classic Island Style Karaoke beginning at noon.
