Lifeguard course for professional rescuers open for registration

The American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer course will be held on April 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center, at 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel.

The purpose of the course is to instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing, cardiac and first aid emergencies.

It includes the use of an automated external defibrillator and bag valve mask resuscitator.

Participants must be able to complete all final skill scenarios and score at least 80 percent on the written exam to obtain the two-year certification.

Cost is $131 for members and $172 for non-members; includes participant manual and rescue mask.
