City reminds Cape residents to follow watering schedule

By Staff | Apr 10, 2018

The city of Cape Coral is reminding residents to follow the mandatory two-day watering schedule for grounds and landscaping irrigation.

“A lack of rainfall is impacting the City’s irrigation supply, and residents need to be conserving water now to prevent tighter watering restrictions,” a release from the city states.

While canal levels are higher than this time last year conservation remains important, officials said.

“Residents have done a good job up to this point conserving our water resources,” said Utilities Director Jeff Pearson in a prepared statement. “We need their help a little bit longer to get us through the driest part of the season.”

Cape Coral Code Compliance will increase enforcement efforts of the City’s watering schedule, officials said, adding there have been 1,756 illegal watering cases since the beginning of the year.

Lawns do not require as much water as the summer months, officials said.

“In fact, setting automatic timers to water 20-30 minutes in each zone should provide adequate irrigation for residential lawns,” the release states.

Residents who need help setting their timers can call 3-1-1, and the city may be able to provide assistance.

The two-day watering schedule for irrigation applies to all residents whether they use the City’s dual-water system or private wells. The watering days and hours depend on the last number of the home address.
