Sanibel neighborhood is first to fully sponsor shoreline
Residents of Chateaux Sur Mer recently held a beach party to celebrate their accomplishment of becoming the first neighborhood on Sanibel to fully sponsor their shoreline though the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s Adopt-A-Beach Program. Not only did the neighborhood reach its goal, it more than doubled it. Kelly Sloan, the coordinator of SCCF’s Sea Turtle program, shared the news that last season’s efforts resulted in 20,000 more hatchlings reaching the Gulf of Mexico. Not only does the neighborhood intend to continue its Adopt-A-Beach sponsorship, it wants to encourage other Sanibel neighborhoods to join the program and sponsor their shorelines. It is offering to share email templates and materials with other associations to make it easier to get homeowners to join in. Nesting season begins April 15 and all funds donated to Adopt-A-Beach go directly and solely to sea turtle monitoring and research. Neighborhoods interested in participating in the program can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
