LCSO: Deputy attacked by man with a knife in Bokeelia
A Lee County deputy shot a man on Pine Island Thursday after the deputy was stabbed while answering a public assistance call in Bokeelia.
The deputy, who was not named, was attacked in the 16000 block of Aura Lane by a man wielding a knife, officials said.
The deputy’s injuries were “non-life-threatening.”
The individual who was shot for airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not known.
“At approximately 1:33 p.m. today our deputy dispatched to 16129 Aura Lane regarding a public assistance call,” Undersheriff Carmine Marceno of the Lee County Sheriff Office said. “Upon our arrival our deputy spoke with a male suspect. Shortly after speaking to that suspect he began to attack our deputy with a knife subsequently stabbing our deputy. Our deputy, in fear for his life and safety, discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Our deputy has non life threatening injuries; he was transported to a local hospital. The suspect was flighted to a local hospital with unknown injuries.”
The agency’s Major Crime Unit has assumed the investigation.
No other details were released.
“Because this is an open, active investigation I can’t answer any questions,” Marceno said.
