Smith appointed to Lee County Tourist Development Council
The Lee County Board of County Commissioners appointed Sanibel City Councilwoman Holly Smith to the Lee County Tourist Development Council at the board’s March 6 meeting.
Prior to becoming a council member, Smith served on the Sanibel Planning Commission since 2009, the last two years as vice chair. She is also the council liaison to the Contractors Review Committee, the Sanibel Bike Club and the Planning Commission. Additionally, Smith serves on the Florida League of Cities’ Municipal Administration Legislative Policy Committee. She is a member of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association of Southwest Florida.
Smith and her husband, Jason, are Lee County hoteliers and owners of Gumbo Limbo Management Development. The Smiths relocated to Southwest Florida in 1988 and moved to Sanibel in 2001.
Smith’s commitment to community involvement spans more than 20 years in Lee County. She is serving her second term as a member of the F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva Board of Directors.
In February, the Sanibel City Council unanimously approved Smith to complete the remainder of the two-year Tourist Development Council term, a seat previously held by Mayor Kevin Ruane.
The nine-member TDC is an advisory board to the BoCC and was established in 1983.
