South Cape Mardi Gras Trolley event ready to roll

By Staff | Feb 22, 2018

Twelve participating businesses in South Cape have made a signature drink for the 5th annual South Cape Mardi Gras Trolley event, which is scheduled for Saturday night.

South Cape Hospitality & Entertainment Associations Marketing Director Pamela Hazelton said they hold several events throughout the year, with most of them being trolley events.

“People love to go out and have a good time,” she said. “It’s a great way to go out with friends and meet new people and discover new places. It’s good for the businesses, good for people to see everything that South Cape has to offer.”

The 5th annual South Cape Mardi Gras Trolley event will take place from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24.

“It makes 12 stops,” she said of the trolley. “People can spend as much time at each location (as they choose) because the trolley will keep circulating.”

She said the cool bar crawl will feature 12 specialty drinks for $2.50.

“Each place has their own specialty drink created for this event,” Hazelton said.

Those drinks include the Backstreets Blackberry Bourbon Smash at Backstreets Sports Bar; Chi-Chi at Tiki Hut; Mardi Gras Madness Punch at World Famous Cigar Bar; Remixxed Hurricane at Remixx Lounge; Creole Kazi at Dixie Roadhouse; Nola Harlet at Rockade; Wicked Punch at Big Blue Brewing; Shocktop Seasonal at Ralph’s Place; Hurricane at Cruisers; Pomtini at Monkey Bar; Bourbon Street at Rack’em Spirits & Times and Mexi Bay Breeze at Two Amigos.

Hazelton said this is the first time Remixx Lounge is participating.

“They recently opened,” she said. “This is going to be a great way for them to check it out,” she said of event attendees.

In addition to the specialty drinks, Hazelton said many of the participating businesses will have live music, karoke and food.

“A lot of people will come early and check in at 6 p.m. and have dinner in South Cape and when 7 p.m. hits they are ready to go,” she said of close to 1,000 people gathering in South Cape.

The check-in locations are at the Big John Plaza near Pinch A Penny and in front of Dixie Road House. Hazelton said individuals will receive a Mardi Gras beaded necklace and a passport, which will be stamped at each location throughout the event, when they check-in.

“This is a 21 plus event, even for designated drivers,” she said, adding that the IDs will be checked at check-in.

An official photo booth, which is one of the stops on the trolley, is also apart of the festivities. Hazelton the pictures will be uploaded to Facebook and the winning photo will receive four tickets for their next event.

“A lot of people will dress up, wear masks and tons of beads and wear Mardi Gras themed clothing,” she said.

Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 the day of the event if any are still available.

Tickets can be purchased at www.southcapeentertainment.com/upcoming-events/5th-annual-mardi-gras-trolley-event/, or at some of the participating businesses.
