Thank you for the support
To the editor:
A big thank you to all who attended the 2018 Sanibel/Captiva Heart Walk! Together, we raised over $30,000 to support the lifesaving work and research of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
Of course, none of this could have been possible without our generous sponsors. We would like to thank all who contributed to the event, with a special nod to our two platinum sponsors – Sanibel Captiva Trust Company and Il Cielo. Thanks are also due to our Healthy For Good sponsor, Lee Health, and our gold sponsor, Alpha Home Care.
Silver sponsors included Shell Point Retirement Community; System Dynamics Inc./Sandy Teger and Dave Waks; PairADice Produce; Lex and Eileen Roulston; Chuck Bergstrom/RE/MAX of the Islands. Bronze sponsors included Suncatchers’ Dream; Bank of the Islands; Carole and Michael Fallon; Mark and Teresa Baker; Sanibel Captiva Community Bank; Sanibel Kiwanis; Captiva Cruises; and Mandy and Steve Greenstein.
Generous donations for the Chance To Win portion of the event were provided by many, including local artists, restaurants and shops, as well as Lily & Co. and South Seas Island Resort.
A special thank you is owed to those who provided in-kind and logistical support, including Bailey’s General Store/Richard Johnson, South Seas Island Resort and Dan Confrey, who once again provided musical entertainment. We are particularly appreciative to Sanibel Community House and Teresa Riska Hall, who graciously let us move our festivities inside when rain threatened.
A shout out to Sanibel Fire and Rescue District for demonstrating the use of automated external defibrillators or AEDs. Additional support came from Thank You for the Dance, Evans Entertainment, The Sanibel School and Sanibel’s Cub Scout Pack 1740 and Boy Scout Troop 1740.
We had a remarkable turnout for some of our teams, including Temple Bat Yam, St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church and Lee Health and its associated organizations, Shipley Center and Golisano Children’s Hospital. You are all wonderful!
We thank our medical speakers, Dr. Brian Hummel, cardiothoracic surgeon for Shipley Cardiothoracic Center, and Dr. Suying Lam, pediatric cardiologist for the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, for joining us as well as our featured survivor Rabbi Stephen Fuchs. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Breeze Newspapers, Island Sun and the Santiva Chronicle, which published many survivor stories and provided publicity.
Many thanks to all the hardworking volunteers, including those who directed parking, and to the city of Sanibel for all your support. Anyone we missed, we thank you!
The funds raised through this event support the education, research and advocacy of the American Heart Association whose mission is for all of us to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
