Thank you, Community House
To the editor:
Folks do things well on Sanibel. Ranking high on the list is the rehab of our historic Community House. In redesigning the exterior, they captured the old Island style with a beautiful pillared, canopied walkway to the entrance. Once inside you are greeted with a lobby lit by a chandelier whose decor contains actual Sanibel shells. The historic original room with its fireplace is redecorated in soft inviting colors and shell pictures telling the original dates.
My favorite room is the one directly across from the entrance. Everything about the room is inviting: the soft neutral tones, the high ceilings, comfortable chairs and the bands of windows in front of the new kitchen. Any restaurant in town would envy the equipment and design of that kitchen. The great room with its stage has kept the ideal space for large events.
All in all, thanks to the board who decided to do the right thing in updating while maintaining the integrity of this historic island treasure, to the architects and designers who created the ambiance, and to those who provided the funding. As a weekly user of this amazing space, I applaud you.
