Name of pilot who died in crash released

The name of the pilot who died in a plane crash in Bonita on Monday has been released.

Fort Myers resident Daniel Bernath, 68, was piloting the small aircraft that crashed near the wooded area of Bonita National Golf Club, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a release issued Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a plane crash in Bonita Springs in a heavily wooded area near the Bonita National Golf Course.

The area is inaccessible and should be avoided, officials said, adding more information will be released as it becomes available.
