Rotary Happenings: 2018 Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Arts & Crafts Fair Feb. 17 – 18
Although the big countdown of the year at midnight on Dec. 31, 2017 brought us to our new year 2018, this is pretty much old news. A new countdown is now in progress leading to Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Arts & Crafts Fair President’s Day Weekend 2018. Arts & Crafts Fairs abound this time of the year in Southwest Florida, but many of them are not on par with the upcoming juried Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18 on the grounds and inside the Sanibel Community House on Periwinkle Way. This Fair has the reputation of selecting only the very best artisans from all over the country to present one-of-a-kind items handcrafted and their finest work offered at the Fair. Artist in all media and styles: ceramic, digital, fiber glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor, wearable art, woodcraft and so much more. Remarkable art work in classic, modern, and whimsy styles.
Although over 300-plus artists and craftsmen applied to be considered for inclusion in this year’s Rotary Arts and Crafts Fair a jury panel previewed all submissions and selected just over 100 entries for presentation at the Fair and booth space. Among those artists and craftsmen are some returning artisans and some first-time exhibitors. The juried process selection is based on high-quality work, the best of the best, along with attention for presenting an interesting and varied selection for attendees.
Community members and their families and tourist alike make attendance at this Fair a yearly tradition and as part of the tradition plan on buying one of our Fair’s famous-artist-designed-commemorative T-shirts and sweatshirts to add to their collection of sportswear. Each year Rotary sells over 500 of these t-shirts, so, don’t miss your opportunity to own one.
Once in the gates of the Fair, don’t forget to pick up your map of the grounds with information on artists and craftsmen at the Fair, and booth locations. The expanded separate food court area last year located on the Community Park grounds was a big hit. Fair goers didn’t have to leave the fair grounds to find sustenance to keep on going and enjoy this unique fair’s shopping experience.
Inside the beautifully renovated Community House, you can find an area set aside for sitting down and taking a break and reviewing information on booths still to visit. While inside make surereally make sure you check-out the outstanding offerings included in the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary’s Silent Auction area. You can bid on premier vacation stays, premier on the road event tickets, off-island adventures, dining out, on-island vacation stays, on-island adventures, fine wines, personal services, handcrafted items, gift baskets, entertainment certificates, jewelry, paintings/art, sport outings and much more.
All proceeds from the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Arts & Crafts Fair go directly into our Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Trust Foundation Account and are then used to fund grants to many organizations and non-profits local 50 percent and global 50 percent with financial funding serving humanitarian causes and building stronger communities throughout the world. Special emphasis goes to: international relationships/promoting peace, disease prevention, clean water, literacy, maternal and child health and strengthening local economics with partners here at home and abroad.
Mark on your calendar the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Arts Fair Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 19. Looking forward to seeing you there.
