Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum to host annual Under the Sea gala
Only a limited number of tickets remain for the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum’s annual Under the Sea gala.
This year, the event will take place at the Community House Saturday, Feb. 3, at 5:30 p.m.
“We expect about 200 guests this year,” said Dorrie Hipschman, executive director of the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. “We’ve outgrown the museum.”
Hipschman said she encourages people who are planning on attending to call and get their tickets early.
“We do have some tickets available. We are saving money and we are not doing printed invitations because we want all of the funds to go to our educational programs,” she said.
Tickets for the Under the Sea gala are $150 per person. The event will feature food from the Sanibel Catering Company, a live auction and a cocktail hour.
“We’ll be doing a program called Cocktails for a Cause which will highlight many of the new programs that we have going on at the museum. It’ll give the guests an opportunity to spend time with our fabulous staff and volunteers. We have professionals here that are incredible, I would stack them against any museum in the country. We really want our guests to hear about some of the work they’re doing,” Hipschman said. “We also have some surprises coming which are things we’re working on right now that we are scrambling to unveil Feb. 3. We have some big exciting news coming that we want to share.”

The presenting sponsor for the event is the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company.
