Invest in the future; invest in solar
To the editor:
Legislation will be introduced in the upcoming legislative session in the state of Florida to ban fracking. This includes acid matrix stimulation.
We have an abundant supply of solar energy. Harnessing solar energy is becoming cheaper than fossil fuel of any type. Our supply of fracked oil and gas is limited and of poor quality. Solar energy is environmentally friendly, renewable and in great supply. We need to invest in our future not in obsolete energy sources. Solar energy will generate jobs and revenue for our future.
There are many reasons to ban fracking.
Fracking puts our vital aquifers at risk of pollution and consumes millions of gallons of water for each well. Drilling each well produces massive volumes of waste water for disposal, and produces massive volumes of toxic and even radioactive waste for disposal. Fracking pumps hazardous pollutants in the air. The leaks and spills threaten public health and the safety of our communities, families and farms.
We should ban fracking, protect our environment and keep our communities safe while increasing our energy sources and producing steady jobs and income.
