Sgt. Jared Ciccone was named the Employee of the Year during the Tuesday City Council meeting, resulting in a standing ovation from those in attendance.

“I would really like to thank everyone with the city. I really enjoy working here,” Ciccone said.

He was hired as a police officer on Jan. 8, 2007 and achieved Senior Officer status in 2009. March 27, 2017 he moved up in the ranking to sergeant.

Ciccone was recognized for his life saving accommodation in March 2015 where he administered CPR to an unresponsive female. He was also shot in the line of duty involving a routine traffic stop on Nov. 20, 2016.

On Feb. 7, 2017, Ciccone was awarded the Sanibel Police Medal of Honor for his outstanding actions in the line of duty to avoid personal hazard of life.

He was also recognized as Officer of the Year by the Lee County Bar Association on May 5, 2017. Mayor Kevin Ruane said he was the first to receive the award twice in 24 years.

“I would like to personally congratulate Sgt. Ciccone for his actions,” he said. “Thank you for all you do, I appreciate it.”
