The Dunes Women’s Golf Association donates more than $20,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
To the editor:
How many of us have been touched by this disease – a loved one, friend, acquaintance, yourself? Too many for sure! This is why the members of DWGA continue their efforts to help fund the research to fight breast cancer. We held our annual Play For Pink Golf Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 and raised more than $20,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). This much respected organization, then funded by Estee Lauder, Elite Travel, Wilson, and Bloomberg, donates 100 percent of funds raised to support breast cancer research.
It was a beautiful, sunny, Sanibel day with more than 100 in attendance last February. Those present showed their generosity by buying mulligans, bidding on silent auction items, purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets and raffle tickets for the numerous items donated by local merchants and artists. We are so very thankful for the kind and generous support of the island financial institutions, merchants, businesses, artists, and many others who helped make this event such a fantastic success. A special thanks to the Dunes Golf and Tennis Club for sponsoring this annual function, Dunes Head Pro Chris Shaul and staff for organizing 100+ golfers, …and to Chef Roro for our delicious luncheon.
DWGA sends a special note of gratitude to those island businesses who so generously supported the cause, including the Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, and the Hanser Foundation. Hole Sponsors included Bailey’s General Store, Bank of the Islands, Barrier Island Title, Bondurant Realty Group, H2O Outfitters, John R. Wood Realtors, Lighthouse Cafe, On Island, Over Easy Cafe, Pfeifer Realty Group, Rosier Insurance, the Timbers Restaurant, Traders, Walgreen’s, and Why Knot. Jerry’s graciously provided fresh fruit for breakfast and Bennett’s donuts were served. Also, thank you to the many Dunes members/friends who opened up their hearts and their wallets to sponsor both holes and carts in the names of loved ones and friends.
The following local and island businesses/artists provided items to be auctioned: B Unique, Billy’s Rentals, Cape Nails, Luc Century, Coach items(privately donated), Congress Jewelers, Deb’s Massage, the Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, Her Sports Closet, Miguel Hnatow, Island Grooming, L’Auberge, McLaughlin’s, Pandora’s Box, Sandbar, Sanibel Day Spa, Sanibel Home Furnishings, The Sanibel Inn, The Sanibel Sea School, South Seas Island Resort, Stone Harbor Golf Club, Sundial, Tween Waters Inn, Annie Wainwright, Vera Bradley, and Doris Zogas.
