Young actors and actresses will take the stage again at the Sanibel Community House for their performance of “Elf Jr. the Musical,” starting Thursday.

“I am so excited that Creative Theater Workshop, a nonprofit children’s theater company on Sanibel island, will be opening their seventh children’s play on the island on Nov. 30,” Artistic Director Michelle Hamstra said. “In the past three years Creative Theater Workshop students have performed for over 3,500 people on Sanibel.”

The next performance, “Elf Jr. the Musical,” will run from Nov. 30, through Dec. 5, at the Sanibel Community House.

The musical takes audience members on a journey with Buddy the Elf, a young orphan who crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and transported to the North Pole, as he tries to find his true identity. Buddy’s enormous size and inability to create toys causes him to face the truth, which eventually turns into a trip to New York City.

One show has already sold out. To purchase tickets, which range from $10 to $15, visit www.sanibeltickets.com.

“The Sanibel Community House Theater is a fun and unique theatrical space for the entire family. With the audience on three sides, you become a part of the show. You never know when an actor will be entering behind you, or even sit right next to you. Every seat in the house offers an exciting experience,” Hamstra said. “Come join the cast and laugh out load as you have a magical night with Buddy the Elf.”

One of the many actresses for the show, 13-year-old Ella Stroud, who plays Emily Hobbs, has been acting since she was 7 years old.

“I’m very protective over my son,” Stroud said of Michael. “Emily is a very charming character that cares a lot for her son because her husband doesn’t pay attention to her and her son.”

The young actress encourages everyone to come out and see the show because “it’s a fun show and it’s around Christmas time.”

The Sanibel School student enjoys theater because she has the opportunity of becoming a new character on stage and getting involved with an entire cast.

The next set of auditions for Creative Theater Workshop will be held Dec. 2, at the Sanibel Community House, for “Aladdin Jr.” The auditions are for children aged 8 to 12, as well as 12-18. The show will feature workshops in stage combat, special effects, fencing/sward fighting, singing, dancing and acting. To sign up for an audition time, visit www.CTW.Life.
